TFM  Women  in  Ag  Launch  Events,  October  28  and  29,  2017, Austin,  TX
October   27,   2017 (AUSTIN,   TX) – Texas   Farmers’  Market announces   the  launch   of   the  Texas
Women   in   Agriculture   photo   essay   project   at   both   markets   this   weekend. This   photography
exhibition  celebrates  14  of  Texas  Farmers’  Market’s  female  farmers  and  ranchers.
Oftentimes   women   are   unsung   heroes   in   the   world   of   agriculture.   Texas   Farmers’   Market   is
proud  to  present  this  new project  promoting  the  women  of  our  shared  Central  Texas  agriculture
community.
The   2012   Census   of   Agriculture   notes   that   nearly   one   million   women   are   working   America’s
lands.  Together,  these  women  are  generating  $12.9  billion  in  annual  agricultural  sales  (source).
In   Texas   we   have   over   120,000   female   farmers   working   43   million   acres,   making   up   33%   of
Texas  farmers  (source),  with  an  $818  million  economic  impact.  Women  have  deep  roots  in  Texas’
agricultural   community   and   in   order   to   help   foster   their   continued   involvement,   it   is   vital   to
highlight  and  celebrate  the  crucial  role  they  play.
Events  take  place  on  Saturday 10/28 from  10am-‐12pm  at  TFM  at  Lakeline (11200  Lakeline
Mall   Drive Cedar   Park,   Texas   78613)   and   on   Sunday 10/29 from   11am-‐1pm   at   TFM   at
Mueller (4209  Airport  Blvd,  Austin,  Texas  78722).  Photographer  Nora  Chovanec  will  be  on  hand
alongside  some  of  the  women  featured  in  the  project  to  discuss  the  project  and  their  farms.
Prints   of   the   images   are   included   in   calendars   and   postcards   that   will   be   for   sale   onsite   and
online  after  the  launch.  Musicians  Christy  Hays  and  Carson  McHone  will  be  playing  music  at  the events.
